If this were a movie or even a novel - a great work of fiction, or in our case, non-fiction - you would be back home and I would be magically emancipated from my parents and we would have a house lavished with great things. Or a more true to life novel, I'd still be emancipated, but we'd live in a shack in the ghetto and have a terrible life. Unfortunately, or possibly fortunately, this isn't a movie or a novel or anything of the sort. It's what became of me when you walked away and didn't turn back around to take my hand.
